Siegwerk Druckfarben AG & Co. KGaA, a leading international supplier of printing inks for packaging applications, labels and catalogs, has signed a contract to purchase the printing ink manufacturer Actega Colorchemie GmbH and its subsidiaries. The latter company, which belongs to Altana’s Actega Coatings & Sealants division, develops and manufactures water-based flexo printing inks, particularly for printing on corrugated board packaging. “With its extensive range, its high brand awareness and its pronounced service competence, Actega Colorchemie fits excellently with Siegwerk,” says Hugo Noordhoek Hegt, president of Packaging EMEA and a member of the management board of Siegwerk. “Due to the merger, we can open up new segments and further enhance our profile as a supplier of water-based printing inks in Europe.” “We are pleased that with Siegwerk, we have found a new owner for Colorchemie that can integrate this business in a significantly larger structure and thus advance it on the market,” says Roland Peter, president of Actega Coatings & Sealants. “In the future, we will concentrate even more on special solutions for the packaging industry, with which we can occupy leading positions.” By acquiring Actega Colorchemie, Siegwerk is once again expanding its package printing offer. The aim is to bundle the strengths of the two companies and to bring together their technological competence and strong service orientation. By integrating the products of Actega Colorchemie into its portfolio, the global printing ink manufacturer can target the needs of its customers even more effectively. Actega Colorchemie sells its products in numerous European countries. The company employs around 140 people at four sites in Germany, France, Austria and Poland. It is headquartered in Büdingen in the German state of Hesse. The transaction is subject to approval by the competition authorities. Until such approval is granted, Siegwerk and Actega Colorchemie will remain and operate independently with no consequences for customers, employees, and suppliers. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
